Acts 5: Highlights and Discussion

Highlights:

Acts 5:1-11: Lying to the Holy Spirit-Ananias and Sapphira lied and kept back a portion of the proceeds, both died.

Acts 5:12-16: Continued power in the church, many were healed.

Acts 5:17-21: Apostles imprisoned but were freed by the angle of the Lord.

Acts 5:22-32: Apostles on trial again.

Acts 5:33-42: Gamaliel's wise advice, apostles freed again.

Discussion:

Ananias and Sapphira lied about giving the whole amount to the church but actually kept part of the proceeds to themselves and they were faced with the consequence of death. Doesn't that seem too extreme? I lie once and that's it? No second chances? Does this seem fair? Let's dig a little deeper on this particular issue and discuss during our next call session.
